Express Personnel Services was created in 1983 by founders Robert Funk, William Stoller and James Gray after the dissolution of Acme Personnel, a Washington-based company in which all three were associates.  The company, headquartered in Oklahoma City, struggled during a time when the oil industry took a devastating downturn.  Although local banks and businesses were failing daily, Express managed to keep afloat.  That first year, Express Personnel was able to generate gross revenues of $2 million in spite of a depressed economy.

In 1985, Express began to franchise its operations in an effort to grow the company while maintaining high standards of accountability at each location.  Within five years, Express ranked among the top personnel firms in the United States and was also recognized as one of the fastest growing privately-held companies in the country.

In 1999, the company posted $1 billion in sales.  In 2006, Express reached $1.8 billion in sales, boasts with over 650 offices world-wide and put over 350,000 people to work in the United States alone.  In 2007, Express continues to grow at a rate that far surpasses the industry as a whole - which means Express is taking over market share.

Express officers, franchisees and employees sit on the board of directors and serve as trustees of such international organizations as the American Staffing Association (ASA), the Women's Leadership Board of the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University and the International Franchising Association (IFA), as well as many state and local organizations.  The company has won many honors, including the coveted Blue Chip Award and over 600 national and international awards for its marketing and advertising programs.
